With summer drawing to a close and the autumn season upon us, change is in the air. For a lot of us (myself included), saying goodbye to summer is always bittersweet. Gone are the long, sunny days and warm nights, replaced by shorter, cooler days, and not nearly as much sunlight.

This can make it difficult to feel “in the mood” for fall, especially for all of us sun worshippers.

Luckily, there are several ways you can make this transition a little easier. As we head into the cooler months of the year and shift from the summer to fall seasons, there are a few changes we can make to our homes to help us get into the fall spirit. Try these 6 ideas to make your home look and feel cozy for the fall season.

6 Ways to Make Your Home Look and Feel Cozy this Fall

1. Hang your favorite throws on a blanket ladder. Ladders are a great way to stylishly store things, especially during the cooler months of the year. Plus, their light weight makes them easier to move around your home. Try using a ladder to hang your favorite throws on, or even your scarves. Mix up the textures and colors. Small ladders are relatively easy to find at antique malls, estate sales, or even yard sales.

2. Turn on soft, ambient lighting. Shorter days and less sunlight overall translates to more indoor lighting. Opt for lamps instead of overhead lights. Soft, warm lighting adds to the cozy autumn mood.

3. Burn your favorite fall candles. It’s that time of year again to light all those delicious-smelling candles. Pumpkin spice, maple pancakes, cinnamon rolls, and spiced rum are all yummy scents to put you in the fall mood.

4. Weave in fall colors. Shades of bright orange, plum, wine, and dark brown are all the perfect colors for setting the mood for fall. Whether it’s a brown, faux fur throw you put on the couch, or orange pumpkins you put on the doorstep, weaving in fall colors like these are all great ways to set an autumnal tone.

5. Simmer a fall stovetop potpourri. Make your home smell like autumn by simmering cinnamon sticks, apples, and orange slices on the stove. There are a number of delicious fall potpourri recipes on Pinterest that will get you started.

6. Choose cozy textures. Try incorporating cozy textures like velvet, faux fur, and chenille into your home. A velvet throw or a faux fur pillow are great options for cozy home accents.
