Mornings are already rough to begin with, so it’s no surprise that a morning workout seems impossible for most of us.
However, many studies have shown that exercising in the morning presents a host of health benefits. Improved sleep quality, more energy, and eating healthier are just some of those.
But let’s face it: working out still isn’t easy to do in the morning, especially if it means that you have to get up earlier than you normally would.
(Read this article to learn which morning habits prevent daily stress).
Luckily, there are a few things you can do to change this. Here are eight ways you can motivate yourself to get up and get moving in the morning.
8 Ways to Motive Yourself to Exercise in the Morning
1. Make your cold brew the night before. Make your usual cup of coffee the night before and leave it to cool in the fridge the night before. In the morning, add some ice cubes and fixings of your choice. Not only will the cold coffee boost your energy and mood, but it will also help to increase your metabolism, and even improve fat loss.
2. Polish your workout playlist. Studies have shown that energizing music can improve your performance, so update your workout jam with the latest upbeat tunes. Fill your playlist with songs that motivate and inspire you, and turn it up!
3. Lay your clothes out the night before. Picking your clothes out when you’re tired is hard enough, so do it the night before. It will be one less thing to think about when you wake up to work out.
4. Set an alarm clock in the other room. This is a great tip if you have a difficult time getting out of bed. Set a second alarm in the living room, kitchen, or essentially any other room other than your bedroom. This way you’re forced to get up and get moving when it’s time to wake up and exercise.
5. Drink water within a few minutes of waking up. Keep a glass or bottle of water on your bedside table, and when you wake up in the morning, chug it. Hydration is key to waking up and fueling your body for the day.
6. Think about how great you’ll feel afterwards. Visualize your future self once you’ve completed your workout. So you might be a little sweaty (and maybe a tad smelly), but undoubtedly you’ll feel amazing afterwards thanks to all those endorphins you’ve released. Plus, with your workout done and out of the way for the day, think of all the fun things you have time for now!
7. Set daily and weekly goals. Motivate yourself to exercise by being competitive with yourself and setting goals. Maybe your goal is to reduce your mile time by a couple of minutes by the end of the week. Or maybe it’s to do X number of push-ups tomorrow. Set goals like these and commit yourself to achieving them.
8. Reward yourself at the end of the week for a job well done! If you were able to successfully get up every day this week to workout, or if you reached all the goals you set for the week, reward yourself. Buy yourself those new yoga pants you’ve been eying, or see a movie this weekend. Reward yourself for completing a fit, healthful week.
