The thoughts we have in our minds, the perspective through which we view our lives, and the emotions, worries, and feelings we sift through on a daily basis are what make up our mindset.
The kind of mindset we have ultimately colors the lens through which we see not only the world, but also ourselves. Your mindset is a powerful tool that can either push you forward and encourage your growth, or hold you back and limit your potential.
Often our negative thoughts go unchecked, and when they go unchecked for long enough, they can negatively affect our mindset and hold us back from what we’re truly capable of accomplishing.
If you’re in need of a mindset overhaul, look no further than these 6 mindset shifts that are guaranteed to help you grow and bring you closer to reaching your potential.
6 Mindset Shifts Guaranteed to Help You Grow
1. Shift your focus to your strengths. It’s all too easy to focus on our weaknesses, especially when we’re struggling. I know that I tend to be overly self-critical, and that I easily lose sight of how I can use my strengths to move forward, rather than letting my weaknesses hold me back. While we should always be mindful of how we can improve upon our weaknesses, shifting our focus to your strengths allows us to move forward and grow, making challenges easier to overcome.
2. Know that optimism is your secret weapon. While being optimistic may seem impossible, especially when the going gets especially rough, optimism is your best weapon when it comes to facing challenges. Keeping your mind open and positive is the one thing you need to get yourself out of nearly any sticky situation. It can help you to see solutions you wouldn’t otherwise see, and solve problems more creatively simply because your mind is open and you’re looking on the bright side. Trust that things will always work out for the best, and use optimism as your guiding light.
3. Focus on what you can control. As hard as we may try, we will never be able to exert control over what others say and do, or what exactly lies ahead in our futures. Letting go of what you can’t control may seem like you’re giving up, but in actuality, letting go is quite freeing. Not only is it far more productive, but it is also a healthier way to invest your time and energy.
4. Channel your fears towards action. A mindset of fear is not only unproductive, it’s also self crippling. While experiencing fear is normal, and even healthy to an extent, all too often we let our fears control our decisions, and even our lives. Rather than letting your fears take the wheel, use your fears as a means of motivation. Channel that fear and free floating anxiety towards action. Start laying the plans for what you wish to accomplish, and counteract your fears directly by taking action.

5. Let go of what you can’t change. Whether it’s the past, our mistakes, or worrying about the future, there are plenty of things that we all wish we could change. We fall into the trap of believing that we can somehow change things if we just continue worrying about it. Don’t let yourself fall into this trap. This is the type of mindset that will only hold you back, rather than moving your forward. Let go of what you can’t change, and focus instead on what you can change in your life.

6. Embrace the journey more than the outcome. Sometimes we let the desired outcome or destination eclipse the process, or the journey itself. While it’s always advantageous to have an end goal in mind, don’t let it overshadow where you are now. Embrace the journey. Savor the wins that come from the challenges along the way. Overcoming the challenges is where you grow and learn the most.
