While spring is typically the season that is most associated with the ‘out with the old and in with the new’ mentality, the fall season is also an ideal time to freshen up our lives and regain perspective.

As we head into the cooler months of the year and approach the holidays, autumn is one of the best times to take inventory of our lives, refocus our intentions, and recharge our batteries.

Use these 5 tips to refresh your mindset this fall, and to prepare you for the holiday season.

5 Ways to Refresh Your Mindset this Autumn

1. Journal for five minutes a day. Journaling is one of the best ways you can refresh your mindset, simply because it elevates awareness of your feelings and your perspective. It also allows you to delve into your thought processes so that you can check whatever negative thoughts are coming up in your inner dialogue. Journal for just a few minutes every day to cultivate more awareness about your thought patterns. Doing so will not only help you to be more mindful, but also help in refreshing your mindset.

2. Take back your mornings. How you start your day greatly influences how the rest of your day unfolds. Having a morning routine that not only incorporates mindfulness, but also invigorates you for the day is key if you really want to refresh your mindset this fall. Start a new morning routine that nourishes your mind, body and soul. Whether it’s going for a brisk 10-minute walk in the mornings, reading a book while you eat your breakfast, or meditating first thing after you wake up, develop a morning routine that keeps your mind fresh and invigorated.

3. Take inventory of where you are. As daunting as it may be to ask yourself the big questions, doing so is absolutely pivotal to refreshing your mindset. Take inventory of where you are now. Ask yourself questions like:

  • What do I really want? What progress am I making towards what I want?
  • What’s working in my life? What’s not?
  • What’s holding me back?

4. Focus on your intentions. Once you’ve taken inventory of where you are, focus on your next steps, and what intentions you have to move forward and improve. Take note of any areas for self-improvement and personal growth. Use your intentions to guide your actions, your motivations, and to bring you closer to where you want to be.

5. Make time for what brings you joy. While it’s all too tempting to keep your nose to the grindstone and keep working as hard as you can, doing so can quickly lead to burnout and a frazzled, unproductive mindset. No matter how busy life gets, making time for the things that you bring you joy will keep your mindset healthy and positive. Make time for new experiences that excite you, that spark your imagination. Letting your mind wander with new ideas and experiences will refresh your mindset and help you to regain perspective, no matter how busy you are.
