It isn’t always easy to move on from something or someone, and that’s usually because it requires change. Change in itself is difficult for us, especially since it means that we have to navigate the unknown.
Maybe you’ve been feeling stuck in your job and professionally unfulfilled. Or maybe you’ve been in a relationship that you’re unsure of, and wondering whether it’s time to move on. Whatever situation you’re in, here are 5 telling signs that it’s time to move on.
5 Ways to Know That It’s Time to Move On
1. You can’t remember the last time you felt fulfilled. When you started this chapter or venture in your life, you probably had a sense of fulfillment or satisfaction that initially fueled you. Maybe you felt that it was a rewarding experience, or that what you were doing was well worth your time. But now, you don’t get that same sense of satisfaction, and you may even feel like your time is wasted these days with this same venture. If you’ve consistently felt like this for some time now, this is a good indicator that it’s time to move on. Your time and your efforts are valuable, and you shouldn’t waste them. It’s time to look for new opportunities that fuel and excite you, and bring meaning into your life.
2. You find yourself doing the same things over and over again, but with the hopes of a new result. Do you find yourself doing the same things the same way, but expecting a different result? This is usually a strong sign that it’s time to move on. Maybe you’ve been doing the same job or role for some time now, and are no longer challenged and need a change. Or maybe you’ve been in a dead-end relationship where you’ve tried your hardest to make things work, but it’s just not working. If you’ve tried your hardest again and again, but still not getting what you want, then maybe it’s time to consider a new course.
3. Your priorities have changed. For whatever reason, your priorities have shifted since you first began this venture. Maybe you’ve realized that your values no longer reflect this path you’re on, or that you want something different. If this is the case, don’t be hard on yourself. It’s normal to change priorities over time, even if it means taking a new direction.
4. You’re restless. Do you find yourself always wondering about how different things could be? Or how you want to try something new, or something different? While it’s normal to feel restless from time to time, feeling restless every moment of every day is not normal. Take some time to reflect on what you really want, and what new course of action you can take.
5. Your gut is telling you that it’s time. You might not be able to put your finger on it, but for some reason you just feel that it’s time to move on. Your gut and your intuition go hand in hand, and normally if it’s telling you something consistently, you should listen. Don’t ignore your gut, especially if it’s telling you it’s time to move on.
