For all of us summer lovers out there, the transition to fall can be a little, well, difficult. Gone are the long, sunny days and warm nights, replaced by shorter, cooler days and even colder nights.

As great as the summer can be for all of us sun worshippers, the fall boasts some pretty cool benefits, as well. For one, it’s that in-between season where you can still enjoy the great outdoors without having to worry about suffering from heatstroke or getting frostbite. It’s also the season where you can rock a cute, comfy sweater, but without having to wear a bulky jacket over it, as well. Plus, with the holidays just around the corner, the fall season is a great time to relax and get organized before one of the busiest times of the year.

In spite of all these perks that come with the autumn season, some of us may still struggle to get into the fall mood, and to make the most of this time of year. If you’re needing some ideas to help you get into the fall spirit this year, here are 8 ideas to get you started.

8 Ways to Get Into the Fall Spirit

1. Decorate your home with autumn themed decor. Spruce up your home this fall season with autumn themed decor. Place some pumpkins near the front door. Light up a few fall themed candles that look and smell like the season. Hang a fall themed wreath. Or put out a dish of candy corn. Make your home look and feel like fall to really get into the season.

2. Have a scary movie night in. Don’t feel like going out? Have a scary movie night in and watch all your favorite scary movies. Or if you’re like me and can’t do too scary movies, opt for some lighter ones.  “Hocus Pocus,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “The Haunted Mansion,” and “Sleepy Hollow” are my top picks to get into the fall spirit.

3. Try out fall recipes. With the cooler weather and extra time spent indoors, this is a great time to try out some new fall recipes. Try making hot cider in the crockpot, or make some yummy fall deserts, or try diy-ing your own version of a pumpkin spice latte. There are plenty of fall recipes on Pinterest to get you started.

4. Incorporate fall tones and colors. Nothing says fall like burnt oranges, deep purples, and warm brown tones. Whether you paint your toenails purple or you toss an orange colored throw over the couch, incorporate warm, fall tones for the autumn season.

5. Go on a ghost tour. One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to go on ghost tours. Not only is it a fun way to get a little spooked with friends, but it’s also a fantastic way to learn more about the history of a city. Plus, what better time to do it than when it’s close to Halloween?

6. Enjoy all things pumpkin. Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin beer, pumpkin cookies,  pumpkin pie, pumpkin scented candles….the list goes on! Indulge yourself in all things pumpkin to get into the fall spirit.

7. Get a head start on your holiday shopping. The fall is a great time to get organized, especially before one of the busiest seasons of the year. With Christmas just around the corner, now is the perfect time to get a head start on your holiday shopping.

8. Take part in outdoor autumn activities. There are plenty of outdoor activities that make the fall season unique. Go to a pumpkin patch with a pal. Carve pumpkins outside one night. Get lost in a corn maze with friends. Enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting. Go on a hayride one evening. Get outside and enjoy the last bit of the warm weather this year.
