When it comes to sweet potatoes, I’m a bit obsessed. After all, what other food (besides your average potato) can you mash, bake, boil, roast, and even make into yummy fries?

Sweet potatoes aren’t only extremely versatile when it comes to their preparation, but they’re also exceptionally healthy.

Learn why you should be incorporating more sweet potatoes into your diet, and why they’re considered a superfood.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Eating More Sweet Potatoes

1. They’re packed with nutrients. Sweet potatoes pack a punch when it comes to their nutrients. They contain vitamins C, A, and B6, along with manganese and potassium. Additionally, they’re almost completely fat-free, and loaded with fiber.

2. They’re excellent for your digestive health. Sweet potatoes actually have two kinds of fiber in them, both soluble and insoluble, making them fantastic for your digestive system. This helps to maintain regularity, while also supporting the “good” bacteria in your gut. Not bad, huh?

3. They’re packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants are crucial to slowing the aging process, and they also protect your body against free radicals (free radicals have been consistently linked to cancer and other diseases). So by making sweet potatoes a regular part of your diet, you’re fighting the aging process, while also fending off disease.

4. They support healthy vision and amazing skin. Sweet potatoes contain a ton of beta carotene, a special kind of antioxidant. When your body digests beta carotene, it’s transformed into vitamin A, which supports eye health and healthy, glowing skin. As if that’s not enough, beta carotene also helps protect your skin from damaging UV rays, making sweet potatoes your best skincare ingredient.

5. They help boost your immune system. The dynamic duo of vitamins A and C in sweet potatoes make them awesome weapons in fending off illness. Plus, the fiber they contain helps support the healthy bacteria in your gut, which is crucial for a strong immune system.
