Achieving dewy, bright skin in the dead of winter may seem like an impossible task. Colder temperatures, less moisture in the air, and being stuck indoors are all major factors when it comes to experiencing dull, dry winter skin.
Fortunately, there are ways you can counteract the winter’s drying effects on your skin. Learn how you can achieve bright, healthy glowing skin this winter with these 6 tips.
6 Tips to Beat Dull, Winter Skin
1. Watch what you drink. When it comes to fighting dull, dry winter skin, it’s important to take an inside-out approach, and watch what you’re drinking throughout the day. Make sure you’re not overdoing the coffee and alcohol, both of which are known to dry out the skin. Load up on water, tea, and electrolyte replenishing drinks instead.
2. Exfoliate (but don’t overdo it). Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t exfoliate. Get glowing skin fast with an exfoliating wash that contains hydroxy and glycolic acids. This will help to increase cell turnover, while revealing newer, brighter skin underneath.
3. Choose skincare products that contain hyaluronic acid. After washing your face (and/or steaming), be sure to lock in the moisture with hyaluronic acid-containing products. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body, and is key for restoring the skin’s moisture.
4. Steam with tea. Facial steaming boasts a number of benefits, especially when it comes to brightening dull skin. Try steaming your face with a calming, anti-inflammatory tea (e.g., chamomile). This will help to boost the skin’s moisture, while also soothing any irritations.
5. Hydrate overnight with a humidifier. Lock in extra moisture overnight with a humidifier. This requires no extra effort on your part, and the benefits are plenty when it comes to hydrating your skin.
6. Mist a hydrating facial toner. For extra glowy skin, mist on a hydrating facial toner. Opt for one that is alcohol-free, and make sure it spritzes a fine mist. This way, you won’t mess up your makeup if you mist throughout the day.
