Whether it’s a long holiday weekend, planned vacation time off from work, or just some personal days you’re taking, having a staycation at home is something we can all benefit from.
For many of us, time off like this is difficult to plan for. After all, a staycation just means we’re staying at home, right? What makes it so different from any other day of living?
While not readily obvious, a staycation is a fantastic opportunity to reset our mindsets and recharge our batteries. It gives us the chance to mindfully connect with ourselves and the space we live in.

1. Unplug. During your staycation, make every effort to disconnect from your devices. Not only will this help you to focus more on the present, but it will also help you to remove the influence of others’ opinions. This means that you’ll be more likely to do what you want to do, and assess how you want to make the most of your time off.
2. Try out a new local restaurant. How many times have you driven or walked by that new local spot and wondered about trying it out? Whether it’s with a friend, your partner, or even by yourself, pick a place to try out during your staycation.
3. Declutter your space. Clean out old energy and take the time to declutter your space during your staycation. It doesn’t need to be your whole house, just a space that you feel has been accumulating too much clutter. Though a simple technique, getting rid of the old and creating space for the new is a powerful mindset shift that helps prepare us for a new, fresh start.
4. Slow down. The vast majority of us live fast-paced lives where we rarely get the chance to slow down. This staycation though, recharge your batteries by finally giving yourself the opportunity to slow down. For example, take your time in the morning to get ready for the day, or prepare a meal that requires a little bit more time than you would usually spend.
5. Explore a new local place. Getting around to trying out new places is tough when we’re on the work grind during the week. Take advantage of your time off though and try out a new place. Whether it’s a park that you would like to try walking in, a new shop you want to check out, or a new coffee spot, take the time to explore them during your staycation.
