There’s a lot of buzz around juice cleanses and detoxes these days. One major reason why is because they’re effective in removing harmful, toxic substances that can compromise the health and functioning of our bodies.

Many of us turn to restrictive diets, juice cleanses, and even liver cleanses that are often intensive.

But what if there was an easier way to detox our bodies?

Detoxing the body comes down to supporting the health of your liver. There are actually much easier (and affordable) ways to support it and your body’s natural detoxification pathways.

Learn how to support optimal liver health and functioning with these 4 easy tips.

4 Ways to Support Your Liver Health

1. Break a sweat often. Detoxing your liver is crucial to supporting its health, and one way to do that is to break a sweat. When you sweat, you naturally rid the body of toxins, thereby supporting the liver’s healthy functioning. Go to the gym, take a bath with Epsom salts, or even spend a few minutes in the sauna.

2. Drink coffee. I probably don’t have to tell most of you out there to drink your coffee, but it’s worth mentioning as coffee provides a plethora of benefits for your liver. Studies continue to show that drinking coffee lowers the risk of cirrhosis, helps to prevent liver cancer, and reduces inflammation. Plus, drinking coffee enhances levels of antioxidants, which are key in fighting harmful free radicals.

3. Eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables. Research continues to highlight just how healthful cruciferous vegetables are for our bodies, particularly in supporting the liver. Cruciferous veggies (e.g., brussel sprouts, broccoli, etc.) elevate levels of detoxification enzymes while also decreasing oxidative stress, which help to protect the liver from damage. Try steaming or roasting fresh veggies with a little sea salt and garlic.

4. Cook with olive oil. The health benefits of olive oil are plenty, particularly when it comes to supporting your liver. Olive oil has been shown to improve enzyme and fat levels in the liver, while also improving insulin sensitivity. Why does this matter? Fat accumulation in the liver is what occurs in the first stages of liver disease. Drizzle olive oil over salads, use it as a marinade, or even substitute for butter or margarine.
