“In life, it’s not where you go, it’s who you travel with.” – Charles Schulz

There are few in this life that are guaranteed to open your eyes in the way that travel does. And when you travel together with the person you love most, well, it’s not just eye opening, it’s awe-inspiring.

Traveling together with your partner may be one of the best ways to not only strengthen your relationship with your partner, but also to grow together as a couple.

If you and your partner are thinking about traveling together, stop thinking, and start planning.

But if you need a few extra reasons to travel together, here are 10 reasons why you should travel together with your partner.

10 Reasons Why You Should Travel with Your Partner

1. You see each other in a new, different light. When you and your partner travel together to new, exciting places, you begin to see each other in a different light. There’s something about travel that opens your eyes in a way that staying at home could never do. And when you experience a new place together that is so far from what you know and are used to, you see each other in a new, distinctive way.

2. You’ll learn more about each other when you’re both outside of your comfort zone. Being outside of your comfort zone is the only way you’ll ever learn and grow as a person. And when you travel together with your partner, the same holds true, except you learn and grow together as a couple. You’ll notice things you never noticed before about your partner, like how adaptable they really are in new situations, or how adventurous they are when it comes to trying new foods. It’s things like these that you would never have learnt otherwise about your partner, which keeps things both exciting and interesting in your relationship.

3. You learn how to take care of each other. When you travel together with your partner, you’re forced to rely on and take care of one another. Back home, you probably have a sturdy network of both friends and family. When it’s just you two alone in a new place, you’re all each other has to depend on. You’ll feel like it’s you two against the world, which both strengthens and solidifies your relationship in ways you’ve never experienced before.

4. You’ll build an unparalleled level of trust with each other. Traveling with your partner is perhaps one of the best ways to strengthen your relationship not only because you have to rely on each other, but because you also have to trust each other completely. You’ll see each other’s more vulnerable sides that you’ve never seen before, and because of that, you’ll trust each other in ways you never have before.

5. You’ll have a new set of inside jokes that will last forever. Your partner and you are first and foremost a team, but beyond that you just get each other, including each other’s sense of humor and all their quirks. You’ll find new inside jokes that you both can laugh about long after the trip has ended, which will make your time spent traveling together even more memorable.

6. You’ll test each other’s limits, and that’s a good thing. Traveling presents a lot of tests to couples, but don’t worry – this is a good thing! You’ll learn how they really perform under pressure, how adaptable you both are in new situations, and more importantly, how you support each other in challenging moments. It may not always reveal a pretty side to your partner, but if you two can make it through and come out on the other side, it demonstrates to you both that you two are more than capable of making your relationship work long-term.

7. You learn how to appreciate each other in the present moment. When you and your partner are stuck at home doing the things you normally do and are familiar with, you’re more than likely going to fall into the trap of over-analyzing your future together. There’s no better way to live in the moment than to travel together with your partner.  When you travel together, you both are completely consumed and captivated by the present moment, soaking up the new sights and sounds together. You learn how to appreciate each other in the present moment, and to not focus on the past or future.

8. You learn just how important companionship really is. As romantic as it can be traveling together with your partner, it’s also very insightful as to just how important companionship is in a relationship. Sure – you’ll have those moments of intimacy, but you’ll also have far more moments together that will make you feel like you’re just hanging out and exploring a new place with your best friend. Your partner should be the first person you turn to when you have a problem or a personal challenge, and the first person that’s there to support you. When this side of your partner is revealed whilst traveling, you’ll know it’s a relationship that’s meant to last.

9. You both learn on the same level. Seeing a new place together isn’t just eye opening; it’s also an equalizing experience for partners. When you travel to a new place that neither of you have ever been to before, you both learn on the same level. Learning together with your partner provides the opportunity to both experience and share this new knowledge, and to further open up each other’s hearts and minds to new possibilities.

10. You’ll have the sweetest memories to remember together. While your trip together with your partner won’t last forever, the memories will. Some of the best memories I have with my husband are from traveling, and I still catch myself smiling when I think of all the crazy things we did and/or tried when we traveled together. No matter what happens with your relationship in the future, whether you hit a few bumps or it’s smooth sailing, you’ll always have your travels to reflect on together, which make some of the sweetest memories.
