If you’re looking for ways to improve yourself and your life after a breakup, here are a few ideas to get you started.
5 Ways You Can Improve Yourself and Your Life After a Breakup
1. Follow your curiosities. When was the last time you let yourself follow and explore something you’re curious about? Maybe you’ve been meaning to try out that new coffee shop down the street. Maybe you’ve always wanted to look around that library that’s on your way home from work. Or maybe you’ve been wanting to enroll in an intriguing course at a school nearby. Allow yourself to follow these curiosities and see them through. You’ll never know what you can learn about yourself if you don’t try out new experiences!
2. Learn a new skill. All of us have untapped skills and talents that we may never discover. With the bit of extra time you have now, allow yourself to commit to your own growth and learning by taking on a new skill. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn pottery, or maybe you’ve been wanting to learn the basics of coding. Take the steps towards learning these new skills and commit to your own self-improvement.
3. Find motivation from your fears. There’s no doubt that a breakup can invoke feelings of vulnerability, insecurity, and even fear of what’s to come next in our lives. Rather than letting this fear guide your thoughts and actions, use them as a means of motivation instead. Some of the biggest, most exciting chapters of our lives result from us using our fear to make decisions that change the course of our lives. You’ve come this far and you’re that much stronger since your breakup. Face down your fears, and use them to move forward.
4. Start a gratitude journal. It’s tempting to feel like we’ve lost “everything” when going through a breakup. But when was the last time you took stock of everything in your life and showed gratitude? Just because you’re single now doesn’t mean all has been lost. Start a gratitude journal, and identify 5 things every day that you’re grateful for. Maybe you’re thankful for your degree that allows you to work a satisfying job. Maybe you’re thankful for your friends that you can lean on during this tough time. Or maybe you’re just glad to have a nourishing meal at the end of the day that provides you with sustenance and nutrition. Change your mindset and your outlook on life by merely showing gratitude for what you’ve got.
5. Travel. There’s no better time to travel and explore your horizons than after a breakup. Not only will travel give you the opportunity to learn about new places, but it will also give you the chance to learn more about yourself. Schedule a weekend trip to a new city, or start planning an overseas trip for your next vacation. Take advantage of this solo time in your life, and see the world in a new light.
