If there’s one thing I learned in 2018, it’s that our hormones are crazy important and integral to our overall health and well-being.

This last year, I made the big decision to finally go off the pill. For more on that decision, check out this article here.

Just about everything you could imagine that relates to hormone health happened. Crazy mood swings. Cystic acne. Sleepless nights. Unexplainable bouts of crying. Feelings of listlessness and lethargy. The list goes on.

To help ease through the transition and lessen these symptoms, I started paying a lot more attention to what I was eating, researching for hours on end as to what kinds of foods I should be eating to help regulate my hormones.

There was one food in particular that kept popping up in my research.

From packing a ton of vitamins and minerals, to balancing out hormones, this food was touted as one of the best out there for female hormone health.

Guess which food?

Kale.

Yep, kale.

Learn why you should be eating more of this superfood to promote your optimal hormonal health.

How Kale Can Restore Hormonal Balance

1. Kale balances your estrogen and progesterone. Kale is packed with calcium and vitamin K, two nutrients that are absolutely essential in balancing your estrogen and progesterone levels. Estrogen and progesterone are the two hormones that dictate your PMS symptoms, like bloating, cramps, and mood swings. Eat more kale to balance these two hormones and help keep these symptoms in check.

2. It can help to balance your stress hormones, too. Feeling stressed out? Your stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline are probably out of whack. Bring them back under control by incorporating more kale into your diet. Kale is rich in antioxidants, which help to regulate your hormones. These antioxidants help to fight oxidative stress, thus restoring hormonal balance.

3. It can help to detoxify your liver. Kale is loaded with sulfur and fiber, which help to detox your liver. A healthy liver is critical for hormonal balance, so when it’s healthy, so are your hormones.

4. It’s packed with iron and other good-for-you nutrients. Did you know that kale contains as much iron as beef? Iron is essential for balancing your thyroid hormones, the hormones that help to regulate your mood, energy, and adrenal glands. Plus, kale also contains Vitamin A, B6, and C, along with minerals like copper and manganese. Try adding kale into your smoothies, into your salads, or even with your scrambled eggs!
